Our 5NP bill has made it to the Oregon Senate and we’re scheduled for a committee hearing next Tuesday, 4/22/25, at 3 pm! So once again:
Please join us in Salem if you can, or sign up to testify virtually, or submit your written testimony! And if you’re like wait, what’s 5NP and why are we talking about it again? Read this.
If you submitted testimony for our previous hearing (in the House) please do it again! You can use the same testimony, just be sure to re-address it to the Senate Committee on Health Care (“Chair Patterson, Vice Chair Hayden, and Members of the Committee”). If you DIDN’T submit testimony for the last hearing, now’s your chance to be part of this historic event. Seriously, it’s historic! For years we thought that Oregon would never get a 5NP law, but now we’re getting closer and closer.
Here’s what to do:
1. Go to https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2025R1/Measures/Overview/HB2143
2. Select the “Submit Testimony” button
3. Fill out the Written Testimony Submission Form
a. You will need your:
i. Name
ii. Email address
iii. Organization or city of residence
iv. Position on the measure (Select “Support”)
v. Written testimony
1. This can either be a PDF you attach or you can write up to 4000 characters in the text box located on the submission form page.
b. NOTE: Written testimony is public information and will be posted on the Oregon Legislative Information System (OLIS) website. Personal information in written testimony and in the submission form (except email addresses) is posted to OLIS and accessible to all major search engines, including Google, Bing, and Yahoo. DO NOT include any personal information that you do not want made available to the public, such as your address, phone number, or health history.
It’s that easy!
For more details and examples of 5NP testimony, see this guide:
If you want to refresh your memory of 5NP testimony from the last hearing, look at this page. Or if you need inspiration, check out retired federal judge Chuck Pyle’s testimony here.
If you’re available on Tuesday to testify in person or by video — which would be great! — please register on this page. You’ll need to scroll down to “Measure History” all the way to 4/22 where it says “Public Hearing Scheduled”. Then click on “Register to Testify”.
The Committee on Health Care politely declined our offer of free treatments during the meeting, so we’ll just have to make up for our lack of a demonstration with words — lots and lots of words!
You know what to do. Let’s make something good happen for Oregon!
